UBEC promises technology-driven education



The Universal Basic Education Commission has reiterated its commitment to advancing innovation in Nigeria’s basic education sector through research and the integration of smart technology.

Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, made this statement on Monday during the inauguration of the Research Management Committee at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Abuja.

Bobboyi said that the Commission’s research projects would align with the nation’s goal of achieving a technology-driven education system.

 “Our focus is to ensure that all research initiatives supported by UBEC will significantly contribute to establishing a smart educational system that enhances learning outcomes for our students,” he stated.

At the event, National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galadanci, pointed out the importance of collaboration among committee members.

 He urged them to work together to ensure the successful implementation of smart education initiatives across the country.

Chairman of the newly inaugurated 20-member committee, Prof. John Adewale, assured attendees that members would dedicate their efforts to helping the Commission achieve its objectives.

“We are committed to working diligently to support UBEC’s vision of integrating smart education into Nigeria’s education sector,” he said.

The committee includes notable members such as Dr. Peter Matemilola, Dr Nseabasi Essien, Dr Emmanuel Chukwunweike Nwangwu, Dr Adetunmbi Akinyemi, Prof Comfort Ekpo, Dr Fatimah Abduldayan, Dr Daniel Osarenmwata, Dr Ibeabuchi Glory, Prof. Ibrahim Yazid, and Dr Faruk Ambursa, among others.

Our correspondent reports that in recent years, UBEC has actively pursued a digital transformation agenda, leading to the establishment of model smart schools in all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This initiative is part of UBEC’s broader strategy to modernise Nigeria’s basic education system through the adoption of smart technology.
