AI, deep tech will redefine global economy, says DWTC chief



The Executive Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre, Trixie LohMirmand, has said that Artificial Intelligence and deep technology will shape and drive the future global economy.

The DWTC EVP, the principal organiser of the ongoing GITEX Global in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

LohMirmand pinpointed the theme of this year’s event, “Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy,” as a vital platform for harnessing the transformative potential of these technologies.

“AI and deep tech will redefine tomorrow’s economy,” she stated, calling for increased collaboration among governments, industry leaders, and innovators.

The EVP remarked that the event will showcase the next generation of technological advancements, doubling down on global collaborations and innovations that will drive the future.

“The ambition of young, rising digital nations is clear, and through GITEX, we will strategically propel the next generation of AI-driven technologies via startups, scale-ups, and unicorns.”

The global AI market, valued at $621bn, is expected to soar to $2.7tn by 2032, according to Fortune Business Insights, underscoring AI’s central role in future economies.

Deep tech encompasses breakthrough technologies rooted in scientific and engineering advancements, including quantum computing, advanced robotics, and biotechnology, aimed at solving complex challenges across various sectors.

LohMirmand noted, “This is not just about technology; it’s about the economic future of the world. GITEX 2024 is our platform to connect the brightest minds, innovative enterprises, and global investors to shape the AI economy that will transform industries globally.”

The world’s largest tech and startup event begins a five-day run at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 13-18.

The event features participation from leading technology firms, including Adobe, Alibaba Cloud, AWS, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia, showcasing innovations in AI, IoT, data, and the cloud.

Organisers noted that GITEX also hosts 1,800 startups and features over 120 hours of discussions focused on AI and deep tech across sectors such as digital finance, healthcare, and education technology.

The Executive Vice President of Commercial at TECOM Group PJSC and Managing Director of Dubai Internet City, Ammar Al Malik, also emphasised the transformative power of innovation at GITEX.

“Dubai’s pro-innovation frameworks are the bedrock of tech advancements that serve a greater purpose. GITEX Global is a springboard to unlock this potential, and as the region’s leading tech hub, Dubai Internet City has been a proud partner for decades in its mission towards a brighter future.”

Further reinforcing the UAE’s pivotal role in the digital economy, Abu Dhabi-based tech giants like the Advanced Technology Research Council and G42 Group, along with global players like Huawei, IBM, Oracle, and Dell, will be presenting their latest solutions aimed at accelerating the AI-driven future.

As part of the larger initiative to foster AI innovation, GITEX will be followed by the inaugural AI Everything Global 2025 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, aimed at building a responsible and forward-looking AI ecosystem.
