The Dani tribe, also known as the Ndani, from the Baliem Valley in the central highlands of Papua, Indonesia, is known for a unique and somber cultural practice involving finger amputation.
This practice, known as “Ikipalin,” is a way for the Dani people to express grief and mourning when a family member dies.
