Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has shared his thoughts on teenage striker Marc Guiu, praising the youngster for his heroics in the Blues’ 5-1 win over Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
Guiu scored a hat-trick for Chelsea, while Cucurella, who picked up a red card in their last Premier League game—a 2-1 win over Brentford—will miss the upcoming match against Everton on Sunday, December 22.
As a result, the 26-year-old was named in a heavily rotated starting XI for Thursday’s game at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel, Cucurella expressed his admiration for Guiu’s performance: “I think he’s a top player. He’s young as well. I think he started the season a bit nervous and with that energy where he just wants to score, but with time, he’ll learn to understand the players and the style of football better. It’s about time. We’re very happy for him.”
Guiu, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer for £5 million, has now scored six goals in six games in the Conference League.
