FG unveils Govmail in major digital push

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, celebrated her 100 days in office with the official launch of three major digital platforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s civil service.

The new services—Govmail, ServiceWise GPT, and the Federal Civil Service Online Portal—are key to the administration’s goal of enhancing digital governance.

This information was disclosed in a statement obtained on Monday from Galaxy Backbone’s Head of Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala.

The launch event, which took place in Abuja, showcased Govmail, a secure and Nigeria-centric email platform developed by Galaxy Backbone, designed to streamline communication within the public service.

Walson-Jack described Govmail as a “game-changer” for the country’s civil service, highlighting its role in creating a secure and efficient communication channel for government officials.

“This is a game-changer for our nation’s civil service, streamlining communication and creating a secure path to other government digital services. With Govmail, we are truly embracing the future of digital governance,” Walson-Jack said during the launch.

Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director and CEO, Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, also spoke at the event, expressing pride in the company’s role in developing Govmail, which is expected to provide over 70,000 federal civil servants with a secure communication platform.

“This is not just about email; it’s about enabling productivity, efficiency, and sovereignty in governance,” Professor Adeyanju said.

He also emphasised that Govmail would significantly reduce the government’s reliance on foreign email services, cutting costs and addressing licensing challenges.

The company reiterated its commitment to driving digital transformation in Nigeria’s public sector, with the Govmail initiative at the forefront of this effort.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Faruk Yabo, further underscored the strategic importance of the platform for the public sector.

He affirmed that Govmail represents a significant step toward reducing reliance on foreign services.
