FIRS boss bags 2024 AIG scholarship

The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has announced an Assistant Director at the Federal Internal Revenue Service, Mr Isiaka Salami, as the 2024 recipient of its prestigious AIG Scholarship.

The scholarship, which will allow Salami to pursue a Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford, is aimed at equipping African public servants with the skills needed to lead transformative changes in the public sector.

A statement by the group said that Salami was chosen following a highly competitive selection process that assessed candidates on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to public service in Africa.

He joins a distinguished cohort of 32 previous AIG Scholars who have benefited from the programme since its inception in 2017.

Salami will commence his studies in September 2024 and is expected to return to Nigeria with enhanced knowledge and expertise to contribute to ongoing public sector reforms.

According to the statement, the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has awarded scholarships worth £2 million to deserving public servants across the continent.

Co-founder and Executive Vice-Chair of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, Mrs Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, highlighted the urgent need for transformation in Nigeria’s public sector.

“The Nigerian public sector is at a critical juncture where transformation is not just urgent but essential. By investing in exceptional public servants like Isiaka, we ensure that the leaders of tomorrow’s public sector are equipped with world-class training to deliver innovative and impactful solutions to the challenges the country faces,” she said.

The AIG Scholarship Programme is part of the Foundation’s broader initiative to build capacity within Nigeria’s public sector.

So far, the Foundation has spent over N2bn on training programmes and scholarships, impacting more than 500 public servants. The goal is to create a critical mass of public servants who can lead transformative changes in the public sector, ensuring it becomes a beacon of excellence, integrity, and service.
