The Kaduna State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Edward Masha, has refuted rumours making the rounds that he called on party faithful to boycott today’s Local Government elections scheduled to be held in all 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Masha, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, on Friday, said the call for a boycott was neither made nor endorsed by his office.
He explained that while the PDP’s agents at the SIECOM office in Kaduna were inspecting sensitive materials before distribution, it was noticed that one of the most sensitive materials, the result sheets, was not included and was an anomaly.
He said, “Two weeks ago, I had raised the alarm over plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to manipulate the elections by sneaking in a clause into the SIECOM election guidelines that would alter the process of announcing election results.
“My party will insist until all sensitive materials are included to ensure a level playing ground.
He lamented that the display of electoral fraud by the ruling party indicated that democracy is under attack in Kaduna State.
He further called on all members of the PDP to come out en masse to exercise their franchise and avoid any acts that could breach the peace.
PUNCH Online reports that as of 7:30 am, the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission office was under lock and key while ad-hoc staff were looking helplessly.
