LASUBEB seeks improved agricultural practice in schools



The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Hakeem Shittu, has advised the Public Primary Schools to revive agricultural practices in schools.

He said this during a field tour to Erikorodo Poultry Estate, Erikorodo Ikorodu.

A statement by LASUBEB said the excursion was organised by the Board and Universal Basic Education Commission for Pupils, Agric Teachers and Desk Officers across the 20 Local Government Education Authorities on Thursday 14th December 2023.

Shittu explained that the visit was part of the Agricultural Education Training Programme, stating that the move was to boost the practical experience of fish and livestock farming of the classroom managers and pupils in Lagos State.

He, therefore, urged the teachers to take advantage of the tour to ensure that knowledge acquired during the farm tour cascaded to their various schools which in turn would resuscitate agricultural practices in Lagos Schools.

During the tour, Poultry Instructor at Pentagon Poultry, Mr Damilola  Oluwajimi, took the pupils through breeding, feeding, rearing, and nurturing of birds.

 He explained that poultry farming was lucrative and enterprising due to its diversity.

He analysed the procedure of rearing various livestock such as; birds, pigs, snails, and cattle.

While stating the challenges and benefits of poultry, he noted that It was capital-intensive.

Supervisor, AETP, Mrs Rahmat Ajalogun, urged the children to acquire more knowledge in agriculture, adding that it was a profession that contributed majorly to the development of the nation.
