Ogun: Police arrest four suspects for motorcycle, cylinder theft

Operatives from the Ajuwon and Odeda divisions of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested four suspects for motorcycle and gas cylinder theft.

The suspects are Joseph Ogu, Sunday Jeremiah, Isikilu Azeez, and Faruq Azeez.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, told DAILY POST on Thursday that the first two suspects were arrested for theft, while the other two were apprehended for allegedly attacking local security operatives attempting to arrest another fleeing suspect, identified as Lati, in the Iyana-Efon area of Odeda.

Odutola explained that Ogu, aged 33, was arrested for stealing a commercial Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with the number plate TRE 228 WZ, belonging to one Adebiyi Philip, at Alapara Junction in Ajuwon.

Odutola said: “The commercial motorcyclist discovered that his motorcycle was missing from the spot where he had parked it. After conducting a thorough search, Adebiyi found the motorcycle with Ogu, a 33-year-old man, who was caught tampering with its key and security system.

“Similarly, a theft and assault incident occurred in Iyana-Efon Kila, under the Odeda Local Government Area, where a member of the Nigeria Hunter and Safety Group, Dele Sosanya, reported that Lati, a suspect in the theft of kolanut seeds from his farm on December 19 and 22, fled the community when he (Sosanya) attempted to confront him.

“At 10:15 am on Christmas Eve, the suspect was allegedly spotted again, and when attempts were made to arrest him, he allegedly became violent.”

Odutola noted that during the attempt to arrest Lati, his two accomplices, Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez, attacked a security officer, Segun Owolabi, with a machete, allowing Lati to flee the scene.

“The officer sustained severe injuries before a patrol team arrived at the scene and arrested Isikilu and Faruq, while Lati fled the community,” she said.

She maintained that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and that an investigation has commenced.
