PDP hails judgment sacking Anyanwu, urges appointment of new national chairman

The Edwin Woko-led executives of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State have welcomed the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Enugu, which on Friday sacked Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the PDP.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu upheld a High Court judgment that removed Anyanwu and affirmed Ude Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the party.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Ridwan Abdullahi stated that Anyanwu’s emergence as the PDP governorship candidate violated the party’s constitution, rendering his appeal baseless.

Reacting to the verdict, Edwin Woko, in a statement issued on Saturday, described the ruling as the end of Anyanwu’s “political gambling in the PDP.”

The Woko-led executives also aligned with the PDP’s Board of Trustees, BoT and other party leaders, urging members in the North Central zone to urgently nominate a person of impeccable character to replace Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s National Chairman.

Woko further called on PDP members nationwide to support efforts by the BoT Chairman and some members of the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, to restore the party’s strength as a vibrant opposition, particularly during a period of widespread hardship under the APC-led Federal Government.

Woko said, “We remember vividly that one of the top agendas of the PDP Board of Trustees’s meeting held on the 5th of December 2024 was to charge the people of the North Central of our great party PDP to make haste and select someone from the zone for Iyorcha Ayu’s replacement in accordance to section 47 (6) of our party’s constitution.”
