Respect laws, APC tells Kano gov

The All Progressives Congress on Friday warned Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to desist from taking any action that could lead to violence or anarchy ahead of Saturday’s Local Government election.

Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, gave the warning in a statement issued in Abuja.

Abbas expressed concerns that the governor’s incendiary statement at a rally in the metropolis on Thursday was unbecoming of a leader who ought to be the chief security officer of the state.

Yusuf had, at the said rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, openly told a crowd of the New Nigeria Peoples Party supporters that no one has the power to stop the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission from conducting the local council poll billed to be held on October 26.

Reacting, the APC called on the state government to adhere to the directive of the Federal High Court in Kano presided over by Justice Simon Amobeda which on Tuesday restrained KANSIEC from holding the council poll after sacking the chairman, secretary and commissioners of the agency.

The party, therefore, noted that the governor’s remarks to the NNPP supporters were a subtle way of encouraging them to ignore the court order.

He said, “The governor should simply respect the laws. As law-abiding citizens interested in the growth of our dear state of Kano, the governor should desist from any act that could throw the state into chaos. Inciting people to take the laws into their hands is not the hallmark of good leadership.”

Recall that Justice Amobeda also restrained INEC from issuing the voter register to KANSIEC and barred the security agencies from participating in the proposed election.
