Stanbic IBTC complies with NCC regulations on phone numbering

In compliance with the recent directive issued by the Nigerian Communications Commission, Stanbic ICT Bank has adopted the new fixed-line numbering regulations.

The bank stated in an email on Sunday that the current eight-digit fixed-line format (01 422 2222) would be replaced with a revised 10-digit format (02 01 4222 222).

The adjustment involves appending the prefix, ‘02’ before the existing fixed-line numbers, in line with the NCC’s stipulations.

The move was said to have come as part of the bank’s commitment to ensuring regulatory compliance and enhancing the customer experience in telecommunications services.

“Following the recent announcement by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)  of a major update to the country’s fixed-line numbering format, we would like to notify you that the current eight-digit format (01 422 2222) will be replaced with a new 10-digit format (02 01 4222 222) by appending the prefix “02” before the fixed-line numbers.

“Kindly reach out to us on our updated round-the-clock Customer Contact Centre line 02 01 4222 222, 02 01 2709 676 or 0700 909 9099 for quick resolution of your enquiries, complaints, and requests,” part of the email reads.

Last year, the NCC declared that the country’s fixed-line numbering format underwent a significant transformation from eight to 10 digits.

The transition involves the simple addition of a ‘02’ prefix before the existing fixed numbers, marking a fundamental shift in the telecommunications landscape.

The NCC, acting on its mandate to manage Nigeria’s numbering resources as outlined in the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003, initiated the adjustment to ensure efficient utilisation of numbering resources and streamline communication services across the country.

Under the new numbering format, major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano will see revisions to their current number formats.

For instance, the previous formats of 014630643, 094630643, 084460643, and 064460643 will be updated to 02014630643, 02094630643, 02084460643, and 02064460643, respectively.

Also, the bank emphasised the importance of safeguarding personal information and warned customers against divulging sensitive details to unauthorised parties.

It advised customers to exercise caution and disregard any such requests, including those for banking credentials.
