Students design college logo



The St. Augustine College of Education, Lagos, has said its students participated in the redesigning of the school logo.

Speaking at the unveiling of the new logo, acting Provost, REV. FR.  Vincent Olofinkua, explained that following the announcement of the logo competition, 11 students competed and submitted their designs.

He added that at the end, three designs were shortlisted and two were eventually chosen, worked upon by the Committee.

He maintained that the branding  became necessary, so as to reposition the school, and enable it take its pride of place amongst comity of schools in the education sector in Nigeria.

Olofinkua said, “The school believes in her students and her students believe in the school. It is on the basis of this that the Provost, Rev. Fr. Dr. Vincent Olofinkua turned to his students to challenge them to participate in the rebranding of the school logo. This approach by the Provost is referred to in the Nigerian business parlance as “Local Content”

Following the announcement for the logo competition, 11 students competed and submitted their designs. At the end, three designs were shortlisted and two were eventually chosen, worked upon by the Committee with the Proprietor’s input to arrive at the logo that I have the honour to review and present for unveiling.”

He added that the proprietor, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, graciously approved the redesigning of the logo.

The Institute (now College) was established in 1971, while Archbishop John Aggey was the Archbishop of Lagos and President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria. It was an initiative of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, SHCJ, led by Sr. Catherine Hallahan. It was adopted as a joint (ecumenical) project of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, and the Christian Council of Nigeria (Protestant), and jointly owned by them.
