VirtualTest, an academic competition for higher institution students, has awarded N4m in support funds to 50 outstanding individuals.
A statement by the mobile classroom app said the competition saw participation from thousands of students across various Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Top performers emerged from four academic categories: Mass Communication, Political Science, Business/Public Administration, and Social Science Education.
This initiative by the Mobile Classroom App underscores the transformative role of technology in education by recognising academic excellence and motivating students nationwide.
It read,“In this groundbreaking competition, the top scorer in each category received N150,000, with second and third runners-up awarded N120,000 and N80,000, respectively. Other high-performing students across all categories were awarded N50,000 each, reflecting the initiative’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence.
Founder of the Mobile Classroom App, Akeem Salami, highlighted the importance of acknowledging students’ learning efforts.
“The Mobile Classroom App was designed to bridge learning gaps and provide a platform for students to be recognized for their academic achievements. It’s a great way to encourage focus and discipline in education,” Salami said.
Salami also noted that the app allows lecturers to upload video content, preserving their intellectual property while contributing to the educational development of students across Nigeria.
“VirtualTest facilitates learning and earning, steering students away from distractions toward purposeful academic pursuits,” he added.
A content creator, Dr Olusina Ajidahun, praised the VirtualTest initiative for its innovative approach to assessing students’ knowledge and encouraging academic growth.
“The app is easy to use and a great tool for education in today’s digital age,” he remarked.
In the Business Administration category, Rufus Olawale of Lagos State University took first place, followed by Ikechukwu Franklin, a 400-level Accounting student at Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University, and Oshinuga Ayomide from LASU, who secured the third spot.
For the Mass Communication category, students from the University of Ilorin excelled, dominating 11 of the top 16 positions, including the top three spots. Ayomide Alabi, a 200-level student, emerged as the highest scorer, followed by Oluwayemisi Dahunsi, a 300-level student, and Ahmad Ogunbayi, also a 200-level student. Winners from this category also included students from the University of Ibadan, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun College of Technology, Igbesa, and Yaba College of Technology.
In Social Science Education, Adesewa Adesanya, a 200-level Economics and Education student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), emerged as the top scorer, followed by Ganiu Adesina and Obasi Udoh in second and third positions, respectively.
In the Political Science category, Samuel Okelle, a 400-level student at Federal University Otuoke, secured first place. Sulyman Qozeem of Usman Danfodiyo University came in second, while Abraham Emmanuel from Federal University Otuoke took third place.
